Description

The ghost of Cassiopeia. This nebula is about 550 light years away. It is being shaped by the radiation from the nearby blue-white subgiant star Gamma Cassiopeiae which is about 18 times the size of our sun. The blue in the nebula is blue light reflected from Gamma Cassiopeiae by the dust in the nebula and the red is hydrogen alpha radiation that come from the hydrogen in the dust cloud being ionized by ultraviolet radiation from the star. Captured with my astromodified Nikon d810, Nikon 600mm f4 and skywatcher heq5 pro tracking mount. I spent five nights capturing this ghost for total of 17 hours of exposures in color and 8 hours through a hydrogen alpha filter.
